This always takes time to gather this information! The Business LibGuide links you to the top four databases for finding this information, eStatement Studies, MarketLine Advantage, ABI/Inform Complete, and Business Source Complete. Start with eStatement studies first. Link to the Business LibGuide, click on the Articles tab, and link to eStatement studies

Using your example, FedEx, I Googled the NAICS code, which is 492110, Couriers and Express Delivery Services. The Bureau of Labor Statistics provides a great breakdown of NAICS codes by supersector. eStatement allows you to choose an industry sorted by NAICS, so I was able to go directly to the relevant industry's ratios. Some ratios are provided, others can be calculated based on the data provided.

If eStatement doesn't provide all of the info you need for your project, click to MarketLine, also linked on the Articles tab of the Business LibGuide. By searching companies for FedEx, I was able use the right side toolbar to drill down to the correct industry. MarketLine calls the industry Courier Express and Parcel. If you paste Courier Express and Parcel into the search box and change the drop-down from All Research to Industry, it's pretty easy to locate the industry report. Just use the right side toolbar to limit to North America, and the report you need, United States - Express, comes to the top of the results.

ABI/Inform Complete, linked on the Articles tab, also has ratio information. Click to the database and select the Advanced Search. The best search terms are express parcel postal. Before searching, scroll down and limit the dates to the last 12 months and the document type to industry report. Among the results is Express Delivery Services - Quarterly Update 9/8/2014.

The same strategies will work for construction. The sector code is 23, which will help you to locate information in eStatement Studies. In MarketLine, the main category is construction and real estate. In ABI/Inform, the construction sector is huge, but searching construction NOT machinery should get you the data you need.
