Tough search - the results are full of clutter, as you noted! I've got a couple of ideas, but let me know if they don't pan out.

Start on the Gen Ed page of the Advanced Education Research guide.

Try ERIC at EBSCOHost first. I searched multicultural literature, limited to the last 10 years. Then I scrolled down the left side toolbar to Subject, and I clicked on Show More. Then I clicked Adolescent Literature and I clicked Middle Schools. The 32 results include

• Landt, S. M. (2013). Books for boys: Multicultural literature with strong male characters. International Journal Of Multicultural Education, 15(1), 1-16. http://dx.doi.org/10.18251/ijme.v15i1.531 It contains a section on locating literature, with links to award winning books such as the Pura Belpré Award and the Coretta Scott King Book Awards.

There may be more in the results.

Next, try Academic Search Complete, with this search: multicultural literature.  Limit to the last 10 years. Then I scrolled down the left side toolbar to Subject, and I clicked on Show More. Then I clicked Literature, Young Adult Literature, and Literature - Study & Teaching. Other limiters may also work. Among the results are

• Eikstadt, H., & Falk-Ross, F. (2008). Native American literature as a component of multicultural education. Illinois Reading Council Journal, 36(1), 10-13. Retrieved from http://www.illinoisreadingcouncil.org/publicationsservices/ircjournal.html   offers some Native American selections.
• Boyd, F. B., Causey, L. L., & Galda, L. (2015). Culturally diverse literature. Reading Teacher, 68(5), 378-387. http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/trtr.1326 includes some excellent resources.

You'll also want to look at Cultural Journeys: Multicultural Literature for Elementary and Middle School Students. This highly touted book includes reading suggestions. You can search our catalog for similar books.
