This topic will make a great paper!
I suggest you link to the Articles tab of our Mass Communications LibGuide for the best sources. Start with the Communication & Mass Media Complete database for some solid results.
Paste in this search: (smartphones OR cell phones) AND "face-to-face communication" . Be sure to get the parentheses and quotation marks; they're important to your results. It will look for articles that are about smart phones or cell phones, and also about F2F communication. Limit the results to full text, to the last 5 years, and to scholarly, peer reviewed articles if the assignment requires.
The results include articles such as Pettegrew, L. S., & Day, C. (2015). Smart phones and mediated relationships: The changing face of relational communication. Review Of Communication, 15(2), 122-139. doi:10.1080/15358593.2015.1044018 and Pierce, T. (2009). Social anxiety and technology: Face-to-face communication versus technological communication among teens. Computers In Human Behavior, 25(6), 1367-1372. doi:10.1016/j.chb.2009.06.003 .
If you need more, return to the LibGuide and scroll down the page a little, to Academic Search Complete. Search this database in the same way as before. Academic Search Complete has a different collection of articles. Look for Baron, N. S., & Campbell, E. M. (2012). Gender and mobile phones in cross-national context. Language Sciences, 34(1), 13-27. doi:10.1016/j.langsci.2011.06.018 and others.
By the way, I see that you are an Education student. We also have an Education LibGuide just for y'all!
