Go into the psychology libguide at libguides.brenau.edu/psychology.  Choose the articles tab. Choose the database Academic Search Complete.  Limit your search by clicking on the Full Text and Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journal boxes.  Next, enter the search terms Substance Abuse Symptoms.   Mental illness is a really broad term for many different disorders with a variety of different symptoms.  You may be able to find some general symptoms for all mental illnesses by searching Mental Illness Symptoms or you may find that some mental illnesses are more closely related to specific disorders such as Major Depression or Anxiety disorders.
