The best way is to look for a disclaimer on the vendor's website, such as this one from Amazon:
"The first printing of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition contained errors that have been corrected in the second printing (see a complete list of corrections here). We have removed the uncorrected first printing from inventory and are now only selling the corrected version."
