When searching the library catalog, there is a difference in searching for works about an author, and works by an author.  In this example, I searched for O'Neill, Eugene in an author search and retrieved 73 results.  However, by searching within author, you are limiting your search to only works by the author, not works about the author. 

Notice the difference in this search.  I searched for O'Neill, Eugene in the subject.
