Located next to the Special Collections Room, the Bentley Rare Book Gallery contains first edition works and other interesting and rare items. Mr. Fred Bentley Sr., a retired Marietta attorney who has a lifelong passion for books, has graciously donated thousands of books. These include the first editions of English and American literature by such authors as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Joseph Conrad, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Robert Browning, Thomas Hardy, Alfred Lord Tennyson and Robert Louis Stevenson. Mr. Bentley also donated a significant number of signed editions of works by Eugene O'Neill, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Eric Sloane and others.  He also provided some of the furnishings in the gallery, such as the large table from his own dining room, and a settee once owned by Eugene O'Neill. The gallery is closed except by appointment for special displays or research; contact Librarian Benjamin Barton at (770) 538-4723 or bbarton@brenau.edu for more information.
