What an interesting topic! You'll find the best material for it in our Business LibGuide at http://libguides.brenau.edu/business.

Since this kind of specific information is not likely to be in a book, you'll want to locate scholarly articles that describe this company. Click the yellow Business - Articles tab at the top of the page, and you'll find a variety of databases for this kind of information. Here are a few tips for your searches!

Since Education Management Corporation is the proper name of the company, put quotation marks around the phrase so your searches will keep those three words together. It would look like this when you type it into the search box: "Education Management Corporation".

To find basic information about the company click on the first database listed in the LibGuide, MarketLine and type "Education Management Corporation" into the search bar.  Scroll down the list of results and click on the first result listed under Companies, Education Management Corporation.  Here you can use the tool bar to the right of the screen to see a basic desciption of the business, look at a history of the business, looks at it's key employees and biographies, and more.

The second and fourth databases listed in the LibGuide (ABI/Inform Complete and Business Source Complete) will also be helpful for your research.  In either of these databases, if you wish to search for information about the company and the company's strenths or weaknesses in the same search, you will want to use a Boolean (BOOL-ee-un) search technique by placing AND between the two terms. It would look like this when you type it into the search box: "Education Management Corporation" AND "financial performance" or you could search for "Education Management Corporation" AND "student enrollment", etc. depending on what types strengths and weaknesses you are looking for in Education Management Corporation.

Make sure to click any check boxes for Full Text - this makes sure it will return only items that you can read right away!

Additionally, if you are allowed to use newspapers for your assignment, The New York Times, Business Day section and The Wall Street Journal have some interesting information about this business as well.
